BOXING MEMORY
One of many memories from basic training at Camp McCain Mississippi. "B" Co. and "C" Co. had a boxing match. We set up a "ring" between the two companies "outside."
Bill Cotter and I were two that fought for "B" Co. I fought at 145 Ibs. and Bill Cotter fought at 165 Ibs. (I think). Captain Cote said, "Allen," you don't weight 145 soaking wet." I said, "Sir," I'm pretty close."
I fought a guy from Chicago. He had fought in the Golden Gloves. I lost on a decision. We were both so tired after three rounds, we could barely raise our arms, he from swinging and me from ducking.
Bill Cotter fought John Quartuccio from "C" Co. Bill was winning until the last round, when Quartuccio caught him with a haymaker, and that ended the match.
